Optimising Wind Farm Construction Through Innovative Logistics

The Myrnenska Wind Farm was the largest and most powerful wind energy project in Ukraine in 2019, comprising 39 Vestas V150 wind turbines, each rated at 4.2 MW with a 105-metre hub height. Phenyx Rebuild was responsible for installing 18 turbines, delivering the heavy lifting and site logistics necessary to maintain an ambitious construction programme.

Beyond lifting operations, the project introduced new logistics concepts that significantly improved installation efficiency and set a new benchmark for wind farm construction in Ukraine.

For the first time on one of the company’s wind energy projects, a dedicated laydown and pre-assembly area was established to optimise construction sequencing. Components arriving on site were unloaded and prepared using Liebherr LR1160 and LR1250 crawler cranes, allowing nacelles and drivetrains to be assembled before transport to the installation locations. Final erection was performed by two 600-tonne Liebherr LR1600 crawler cranes, enabling continuous installation activities across the site. This coordinated logistics strategy significantly reduced downtime between lifts and contributed to the completion of all 39 wind turbines within approximately four months, with Phenyx Rebuild successfully installing 18 turbines.
