Engineering the Replacement of Critical Processing Equipment

Bunge required the replacement of a 130-tonne rotor conditioner at its seed processing facility in Mykolaiv without compromising safety or damaging surrounding infrastructure. The confined plant layout and the presence of a retaining wall made conventional lifting impractical, requiring a carefully engineered sequence of hydraulic jacking, skidding and heavy transport.

We developed a lifting methodology that enabled the controlled extraction of the existing rotor and the precise installation of its replacement while minimizing disruption to plant operations.

The existing rotor conditioner was first lifted from its foundation and skidded approximately 8.5 metres using a medium skid system. While remaining on the skidding equipment, the load was hydraulically raised 5.1 metres in two controlled jacking stages using twelve 100-tonne climbing jacks, engineered timber towers and steel support stools to safely clear a retaining wall. After crossing the obstacle, the rotor was transferred onto a 10-line SPMT and transported to a nearby lay-down area. The replacement unit was delivered by vessel and loaded onto the SPMT using the ship’s cranes before installation was completed by reversing the extraction sequence, ensuring accurate positioning onto the existing foundation.

Successfully replaced a 130-tonne rotor conditioner using a multi-stage hydraulic jacking, skidding and SPMT operation, enabling the safe modernization of critical production equipment within an operating processing facility.
