Engineering Stable Foundations for Wind Energy Development

The construction of the Ovidiopol Wind Farm presented a significant geotechnical challenge, with ground conditions that required improvement before heavy lifting operations could begin. To support the installation of modern GE wind turbines, the project demanded a solution capable of rapidly increasing soil bearing capacity while reducing construction time, material consumption and environmental impact.

Phenyx Rebuild implemented an innovative engineering approach that combined advanced ground stabilisation with precision heavy lifting, creating safe working platforms for turbine erection.

Enviro-Mat Ground Improvement Supporting Heavy Lift Operations

The project introduced the Enviro-Mat ground improvement system to strengthen turbine installation areas before crane mobilisation. By blending local soil with cement and specialised additives, the system created durable working surfaces with a load-bearing capacity exceeding 50 tonnes per square metre, eliminating the need for extensive imported fill materials. Once five turbine foundations had been prepared, a 600-tonne LR1600 crawler crane was mobilised to complete the installation of the GE wind turbines. The reusable and rapidly deployable solution reduced site preparation time while providing the stability required for safe heavy lifting and efficient project execution.

Successfully applied the innovative Enviro-Mat ground improvement system to prepare five wind turbine locations, enabling the safe and efficient installation of GE wind turbines under challenging ground conditions.
