Replacement of cement production equipment inside an operating industrial facility using compact SPMT technology to safely remove the existing mill and install a new unit.
As part of the modernization of the Odesa Cement Plant, an existing process mill had to be removed and replaced with a new unit inside an operating production building. The confined layout of the facility required a transport solution capable of moving heavy equipment safely through restricted indoor spaces while maintaining precise control throughout the operation.
We developed a compact heavy transport solution using self-propelled modular transporters to complete the equipment exchange efficiently and safely.
A 4-line self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) was configured with engineered timber mats to distribute the load and provide a stable transport platform for the new 40-tonne process mill. The operation began with the extraction and transport of the existing mill from the production building, after which the replacement unit was moved into position using the same transport methodology. Careful route planning and precise SPMT manoeuvring enabled the equipment exchange to be completed safely within the confined plant environment within 48 hours.
